A good car phone mount is useful if you spend a lot of time driving. There are a lot of great car mounts on the market. But you should choose the one that is best for you. Some people may need a dashboard mount, while others may need a cupholder or vent mount. Some mounts are equipped with sensors that open the arms automatically when your phone is placed near them. Some mounts clamp manually, while others have a surface that is magnetic and requires a phone with a magnet element. Some magnetic mounts have been certified by Apple to be compatible with Apple MagSafe Wireless Charging (upto 15 watts).

It’s important to note that a wireless charger does not mean that there are no cables involved. You will still need to connect your charger to your car, but you do not have to plug it into your phone every time you charge it. For the fastest wired or wireless charging speeds for iPhones or Android smartphones, you will need a power charger that supports fast charging. (Most fast chargers come with a USB-C connector and can deliver power of at least 20 Watts).

CNET experts tested and reviewed each product on this list using their own cars. We update this roundup as new car phone mountings are released.

iOttie’s “autosense”, automatic clamping wireless charger with a mobile mount, is one of the most popular. It’s expensive, but we’ve seen some great discounts recently. The Auto Sense Automatic Clamping Qi Car Phone Mount comes in a dashboard version, or a version with a cup holder, CD holder and vent clip (I tested the dashboard wireless charging mount). This wireless car charger mount features a telescoping arm with a strong suction, and the wireless charging feature is compatible for most phone cases. You can charge an iPhone with 7.5 watts and Android phones with 10 watts. This is considered fast wireless charging.

This Qi wireless charging device comes with a dual-charging USB cigarette lighter adapter. The only thing I don’t like about this charger is that it comes with a Micro-USB cable, not USB Type-C.

If you’re willing to go with a non-name brand, like ZeeHoo wireless car charger, it has all the features you’re looking for, including autoclamping. This is a secure suction that can be attached to your car’s windshield, air vent, or dashboard. It has USB C and up to a 15-watt fast charger for Android phones (iPhones can only charge at 7.5-watts). This upgraded version (see below) has a sleeker look than the original, and costs about $20 less. This wireless charger comes with only a USB-C cord and not a cigarette light adapter.

This wireless car mount charger has an auto-sensing telescopic arms and is one of the most popular generic wireless car chargers. The original version I tested worked well, attaching securely to the car vent mount, and quickly charging my smartphone or QI compatible device.

You’ll need an adapter (not included) to charge your phone quickly.

If you do not want wireless charging, arms or a mount where the arms open automatically, iOttie’s tried and tested Easy One Touch 5 is a good mount for just below $25. The mount’s first-gen model is $17. However, this improved version comes with a telescoping holder.

Technically, Belkin’s Car Vent Mount Pro With MagSafe is not a charger. It’s only a certified MagSafe Vent Mount. Belkin also offers a wireless charging version of this (it costs $41 No car charger, $60 With itThe cable would still be needed to charge it. A wireless version has the advantage that you don’t have plug in your phone each time you want to recharge it, unlike with this vent-mount. I have a USB C to Lightning Cable in my car, but I do not like the extra step to plug the cable in each time I charge my phone.

All that said, what sets this Belkin apart from other generic, non-MagSafe-certified mounts that look similar (and some even offer wireless charging), is that the Belkin has a strong magnet while many of these other vent mounts don’t. If you have an iPhone with a MagSafe case or a newer iPhone model that is not covered in a MagSafe, your phone will stick to the mount. The clip also secures the mount in your vent. You can rotate the mount between portrait and landscape mode.

The Scosche Magic Mount Pro 2 is a great mount. It has a strong magnetic attachment (I use an iPhone 14 Pro with MagSafe case), and the swing arm allows for good flexibility in positioning your phone. This is not a wireless mount, and you will need to plug in a cable. The arm design is its main advantage over other magnetic car mountings. You can mount the device on a dashboard. I use it with the car-vent. The air-vent option is the most popular.

I installed this phone holder  in my car because I didn’t want to have anything sticking up from my dashboard when I wasn’t using the holder. It has a clamshell style and you simply open the top lid to place your phone inside. You can prop up your phone vertically, but I prefer to keep mine horizontally. The base can be swiveled, which is very convenient.

Note that a flat dashboard is required to mount this. It adheres to your dashboard or any other flat surface.

Belkin manufactures a MagSafe car-vent mountThe price of the item is around $40 (see below), as well BoostCharge ProApple-certified ($100), which wirelessly charges iPhones with up to 15 Watts. Belkin BoostCharge magnetic wireless car charger charges iPhones with up to 10 watts. However, it is less expensive at $60. It comes with a removable USB-C cord (which is also integrated in BoostCharge Pro), and a 20-watt cigarette light power adapter. I prefer a car adapter that has two USB-C ports, so a passenger can charge their phone and plug in a cable. You can always add this later.

This Spigen mounting kit is a great option if you already own Apple’s MagSafe Wireless Charging puck. As I mentioned, the MagSafe charger is not included. The USB-C adapter for cigarette lighters is not included. At $18, this magnetic mounting accessory is an affordable option.

Note:If you are using a case, you will need to use a MagSafe case. This is not recommended for larger iPhone 13 Max Pro and larger iPhone 14 models because it is more likely to fall off the mount, especially if it hits a bump.

Some people like the cup holder phone mounting, but they take up a lot of space in your cup holders. The Tecknet mount is a good buy, even though it’s a little generic. It has a flexible gooseneck that allows you to better position your phone. It comes with a car vent mount and a one-touch release.

It’s not a wireless car charger, but I wanted to include it at the very end of the list because many wireless chargers don’t have a cigarette-lighter adapter. This low-profile Ainope Mini Fast USB Car Charger is a better option. It charges faster (up to 24 watts), and it costs less. The charger has both USB-C and USB A ports, so it can charge two devices simultaneously. But if you want 15-watt wireless charging, you should only charge one device.

You’ll need a USB-C Lightning cable to charge your iPhones at the fastest possible rate. This cable isn’t included.
